SPECIAL EVENTS & FUNDRAISING
Throughout the year, we look forward to hosting several special events for both the students and their parents. In addition, we organize a few fun and exciting fundraisers in order to raise money for our school and keep the tuition low. We believe that these events truly add to the students’ positive experience here at TNS, and have helped to maintain the fun-loving, caring, and family-oriented culture that we have. Please explore the list below for more information on some of our events and fundraisers.
In October, we host a “Parent’s Night,” which is an opportunity for parents to enjoy some coffee/tea and munchies and get to know each other. In addition, the teachers conduct a presentation on what the children have been learning so far, what they will be learning the remainder of the year, and discuss the curriculum in more detail. They sing songs, read a story, and demonstrate other activities that the children do during the day at school. It's a wonderful glimpse into the kinds of things our children participate in at school, and also a great way to see the teachers "in action."
In the spring, we have an “Ice Cream Social” inviting all students and families to enjoy and participate in some musical entertainment and ice cream sundaes! This is a fun way for families to mingle and watch their children interact with their classmates. We also invite the new students who will be starting the following year, which is an opportunity to get to know the school and meet some of their future classmates.
In May, we host an “End-of-the-Year Picnic” at Mills Pond in Canton for all of the students and families. The day begins with a ride through Canton on a real school bus, and continues with plenty of activities, games, and picnic lunches!
During the year, we also have special school days such as “Pajama Day,” where we all get to dress up in our coziest PJ’s & “Bring Your Own Picnic Day,” where we all bring our lunches and enjoy a picnic out on the playground. The teachers and children also arrange a special “Mother’s Day,” where the moms are invited to come to class and receive a wonderful surprise. “Father’s Day” is also celebrated, where the children bring their dads to school on a Saturday morning for a fun-filled activity.
In addition, we have a few special field trips that are planned for both the three’s and four’s classes. In the past, trips have included a fall visit to The Pickin’ Patch in Avon with a hayride and pumpkin picking, a spring visit to meet the animals at Flamig Farm in Simsbury, and trips to the Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton.
FUNDRAISING
At TNS, we organize several fundraisers throughout the school year. The monies that are raised from these events are used for daily operating expenses and for improvements to the school (i.e. playground improvement, classroom materials, etc.). In order to keep tuition low, we rely on everyone’s support to participate in our fundraisers.
Our biggest annual fundraiser is the “Candy Cane Carnival,” which is held in December. In addition to raising money for the school, it is also a wonderful day for the children to play games, listen to stories, meet Santa, visit the craft room and see their friends from school. There is also a silent auction, continental breakfast, and a bake sale.
Other fundraisers throughout the year include Sally Foster (gift wrap), Munson’s Chocolates, Trinity t-shirts/sweatshirts, Scholastic books, and other cooperative fundraisers with local businesses.
