Who was Deborah Burton?

Deborah Burton was a wife, mother and neighbor whose life and courage continue to strengthen our community years after her passing.Deborah lost her battle with breast cancer at just 39 years old. She was five months pregnant with her second son when she was diagnosed. Doctors urged her abort, but Deborah refused to give up hope. While pregnant, she underwent one round of chemotherapy. A second, more aggressive round came after her son’s birth. Her cancer went into remission, but five years later, she lost her battle.

Deborah was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, and her boys attended Trinity Nursery School. Her love of education, our preschool and this community led her family to establish the Deborah Burton Memorial Scholarship Fund. Because of this endowment, many children have benefitted from either partial or full scholarships. The scholarship continues thanks in large part to generous donations and school fundraising.

Please keep Deborah’s memory alive and honor her wish for all children to attend preschool.

TNS holds several fundraising efforts throughout the year to grow the Deborah Burton Memorial Scholarship Fund. Additionally, TNS car magnets are available for $5, with 100 percent of proceeds going directly into the fund. We believe so strongly in honoring Deborah’s vision that 10 percent of fundraising goes directly to the fund. All profits from our annual tag sale goes toward supporting future scholarship recipients.
